Due to the absence of cultivable land makes this area unusable for farming and the towns along the coast of Reykjanes peninsula are all fishing towns.
Reykjanes is a peninsula west of Reykavik city, and this is where the Icelandic International airport is situated. Reykjanes characteristics are very volcanic, large fields of shield mountains and lava flows, and a mountain range along the southern coast. Vegetation is rather scarce, but is prominently moss. The rift valley between the American and Euro Asian tectonic plates comes on land at the west tip of the peninsula and runs along it to the east where it cuts north-east through the island. As this area is volcanically active it is a good source of geo thermal heat.
